Dâu is a Buddhist temple in Thuan Thanh district, Bac Ninh Province, and ranks among the oldest religious sites in the country. The compound includes two parallel buildings and a smaller structure on the right, with a three-story brick tower called Hoa Phong standing at the center.
The temple was founded between the second and third centuries and was part of the ancient settlement of Luy Lau. It is considered the oldest known Buddhist place of worship in Vietnam.
The temple connects Northern Mahayana and Southern Theravada Buddhist traditions as it served as a stopping point between China and India.
The temple lies around 30 kilometers (19 miles) east of Hanoi and typically opens from morning until early evening. Entry is free for visitors.
The temple contains stone and wooden statues dating from before the tenth century. Among them is a wood block over 1,700 years old.
