Barockschloss Rammenau

Barockschloss Rammenau is a two-story baroque manor designed by Johann Christoph Knöffel, marked by classical proportions and refined details throughout. The castle contains multiple rooms with distinct themes, from the Chinese Room to the Pompeii Room, each decorated according to different artistic styles.

Ernst Ferdinand von Knoch commissioned the castle around 1721, with construction completed by 1731 as an expression of Saxon architectural achievement. The building has endured various periods of change over centuries but has been maintained continuously to preserve its original character.

The rooms named after exotic places like the Chinese Room and Peacock Room reveal how nobility displayed their travels and collecting interests through interior design. Visitors can trace these tastes in the wall decorations and furnishings they see as they walk through.

The manor sits near Bautzen in the Lusatian region and is easily reached by local roads through the surrounding countryside. The grounds are relatively flat, making it straightforward to explore the park and lower areas at your own pace.
