The Psychiatric Complex in Sant Boi de Llobregat is a group of buildings with separate pavilions for men and women, their facades showing neo-baroque features like stucco work and stone balconies decorated with floral motifs. The compound spreads across spacious grounds with different functional areas for various types of care.

The complex was founded in 1854 by Dr. Antoni Pujadas Mayans after the original facility in central Barcelona had to be relocated due to local opposition. The move to Sant Boi became a turning point in how psychiatric care was approached in Catalonia.

A Renaissance-style chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows sits within the complex, showing how spirituality was woven into spaces for healing. This sacred room reflects the intention to support residents' wellbeing on multiple levels.

The site is best reached by bus to Sant Boi, and the grounds are quite large so plan time to walk around them. Keep in mind that some areas may have limited access or can only be viewed from outside the fences.

This was one of the earliest sites where psychiatric reform happened, setting standards for dignified patient care that influenced practice across Europe. Its design with separate buildings and open grounds was quite advanced thinking for its time about what healing spaces should look like.
