Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, Championship golf course in Hoylake, England
Royal Liverpool Golf Club is a championship links course located on the coast of the Irish Sea in Hoylake, England. The 18 holes run through flat duneland with firm turf and open winds sweeping in from the water.
The club was established in 1869 and granted its royal title in 1871. Since then, it has held thirteen editions of The Open Championship, most recently in 2023.
The course layout runs over land once used for horse racing, and local golfers call it simply 'Hoylake.' Visitors notice how closely the fairways sit beside the beach, with the sea air influencing every round played here.
The clubhouse offers changing rooms, dining spaces, and golf instruction for members and daily guests. Visitors should prepare for shifting weather, as the wind from the sea can quickly change playing conditions.
Bobby Jones won the British Open here in 1930 as part of his Grand Slam and never returned as a competitor. The grandstand at the 18th hole is built anew for each Open tournament and then taken down.
