Dartmouth House, Grade II* listed building in Mayfair, London, England
Dartmouth House merges two Georgian townhouses on Charles Street in Mayfair into a single structure with symmetrical facades and classical proportions. The spaces connect through an impressive staircase and display both Georgian and French design elements throughout.
In 1885, banker Edward Baring acquired the two separate houses and merged them into a single residence designed in French Rococo style. This transformation created the grand property that exists today.
The English-Speaking Union chose this house as its headquarters in 1926 and continues to use it for educational and cultural programs. Visitors can experience the spaces during events held throughout the year.
The house is located near Berkeley Square and operates as a venue for meetings and cultural events. Visitors should check in advance about available dates for tours or public occasions.
The grand staircase features a painted ceiling by French artist Pierre-Victor Galland that reflects French influences in the interior design. This artistic detail often goes unnoticed by visitors exploring the rooms.
