Riddlesworth Hall School, grade II listed building in Riddlesworth, Breckland, Norfolk, England, UK
Riddlesworth Hall School is a school building located in the village of Riddlesworth in Norfolk, England, housed in a large Georgian-era country house. The three-story building features symmetrical design with many windows and is surrounded by parkland with mature trees, protected as a Grade II listed building.
The building was completed in 1792 in Georgian style and was initially owned by the Bevan family, later by the Thornhill family, before being converted into a school in 1946. After more than 75 years as an educational institution, the school closed in 2023.
The school served as a familiar place in the Riddlesworth community where generations of students gathered and learned together. It embodied traditional British educational values, with a focus on discipline, respect, and personal growth that visitors could sense in the orderly and well-maintained grounds.
The grounds are accessible from the outside, allowing visitors to admire the historic architecture and well-kept gardens, though the building is no longer operating as a school. The quiet location with mature trees and open spaces makes it pleasant for walking and is easily reached on foot.
Princess Diana attended the school during her childhood, spending important years there before later becoming part of the British royal family. This connection to royal history makes the location particularly notable for many visitors.
