Benham Park, Country mansion in Speen, England.
Benham Park is a three-story neoclassical mansion with nine bays and stone walls that sits at the center of large landscaped grounds. A prominent columned portico marks the main entrance and faces across the shaped landscape beyond the house.
The house was built between 1774 and 1775 by architect Henry Holland for William Craven, 6th Baron Craven. Landscape designer Capability Brown shaped the surrounding grounds, creating the parkland that forms the setting for the mansion.
The main hall inside the house features impressive plasterwork, carved details, and a dome that lets natural light flood through, showing the craftsmanship of the time.
The grounds are expansive and rolling. Plan to wear comfortable shoes and allow time to walk through the gardens and landscaped areas around the house.
Two large stone gate piers from the 17th century stand in the grounds, moved here from another estate and now protected as historic structures. These architectural elements add an unexpected layer to the landscape.
