The Manor House, Grade II* listed house in Chipperfield, England

The Manor House is a Grade II* listed residential building in Chipperfield with large windows, decorative detailing, and a grand staircase that were added during renovations. The front facade features brickwork that was updated in the early 1700s, giving the structure its current appearance.

The building was commissioned before 1591 and reveals features that developed across several centuries. Major changes happened in the early 1700s when the brick front was entirely rebuilt to follow newer design trends.

The house reflects how English domestic tastes changed across different time periods. You can see these shifts written into the building itself, from its oldest sections to the later additions that follow new fashions.

The building is privately owned and can only be viewed from the outside in designated areas. Visitors should stay on public paths when looking at the exterior and respect the privacy of those living there.

The brick front was completely rebuilt between 1714 and 1716 by a builder named John Marriott, creating a dramatic shift in its appearance. This extensive modernization made the building a showcase for the new Georgian style of that period.
