Church of St Andrew, Anglican parish church in Biggleswade, England
Church of St Andrew is an Anglican parish church in Biggleswade featuring coursed dark ironstone walls with limestone trim and a distinctive grey ashlar tower. The masonry walls show the varied building phases of this structure, while the tower sits on its own ironstone base.
The oldest parts of the current building date to 1300, while the tower was completely rebuilt in 1720 after the medieval tower collapsed. This rebuilding represented a major restoration effort for the medieval structure.
The church maintains regular Sunday services at 8 AM and 10 AM, with additional youth groups and Sunday School activities throughout the week.
The church opens for private prayer on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 AM to 12 noon, located on Shortmead Street. Visitors should plan their visit around these limited hours and confirm current opening arrangements beforehand.
The chancel floor holds a monumental brass from 1481 showing John Rudying alongside the Figure of Death in medieval style. This piece stands as one of the finest examples of funerary art from that period in the region.
