Serbian Orthodox Church Of Apostles St Peter And St Paul, Derby, Grade II listed Orthodox church in Derby, England

The Serbian Orthodox Church of Apostles St Peter and St Paul sits on Normanton Road and blends Victorian church architecture with traditional Orthodox interior elements. The building displays characteristic 19th-century English construction, while the interior contains Orthodox iconostasis and liturgical furnishings typical of Eastern Christian practice.

The structure was originally built in 1842 as Christ Church by architect Matthew Habershon and initially served as an Anglican parish church. It transferred to Serbian Orthodox ownership in 1977 when the Anglican congregation departed.

The building serves as the main gathering space for Derby's Serbian Orthodox community, where services follow Byzantine traditions and practices. Local families come here regularly to participate in religious celebrations and to maintain their cultural heritage through worship.

The church sits at the intersection of Normanton Road and Burton Road where it is easy to locate and explore its architecture and religious significance. Before visiting, check when visitors are welcome since the building functions primarily as an active place of worship.

An interior renovation in 1877 replaced standard church pews with stalls, creating a distinctive layout within the space. This seating arrangement with stalls instead of benches reflects traditional arrangements common in many Eastern Christian churches.
