Hengwrt, 17th-century mansion in Dolgellau, Wales.

The mansion stood near the confluence of Rivers Mawddach and Wnion, featuring stone facades and extensive outbuildings within the Gwynedd countryside.

Robert Vaughan assembled an extensive collection of Welsh manuscripts at Hengwrt during the 1600s, including the White Book of Rhydderch and Black Book of Carmarthen.

The mansion served as the original home for the Peniarth Manuscripts, now recognized by UNESCO as part of the UK Memory of the World Register.

After William McConnel purchased the estate in 1859, he established the Aberdovey Slate Company and constructed the Talyllyn Railway for slate transportation.

The Canterbury Tales manuscript stored at Hengwrt was possibly written under Chaucer's supervision before his death in October 1400.
