Tomen y Rhodwydd, Motte-and-bailey castle in Llandegla, Wales.
The castle consists of a 20-meter-wide motte surrounded by deep ditches and an outer bank, standing 7.8 meters above the ditch base.
Built in 1149 by Owain Gwynedd, the castle was captured and burned in 1157 by Iorwerth Goch ap Maredudd of Powys.
The fortress represents the strategic military architecture of Welsh princes during the 12th century territorial conflicts between Gwynedd and Powys.
The site is accessible from the A525 road, with parking spaces available nearby, and the castle remains are now cleared of vegetation.
The castle controls the eastern approach to Nant y Garth Pass, featuring a crescentic bailey measuring 40 meters across with an undulating defensive bank.
