The Portsmouth War Memorial is a war memorial in Guildhall Square featuring a semi-circular wall with bronze panels listing names of the fallen. Archways connect the monument to Victoria Park and toward the railway station.
Prince Arthur unveiled this monument in 1921 in front of thousands of people gathered in the square. It commemorates residents from the city who died during the First World War.
Bronze sculptures of a soldier and sailor in life-size stand here with machine guns, created by artist Charles Sargeant Jagger who received the Military Cross. The figures represent the different branches of service who gave their lives during the war.
