Severn's Building, Medieval timber-framed building in Castle Road, Nottingham, England
Severn's Building is a timber-framed merchant house with a floor that projects outward over the ground level, creating a characteristic overhang. The exterior displays exposed wooden beams and light-colored plaster panels, topped with a clay tile roof.
The structure was built around 1450 as a merchant's house in its original location. It was carefully taken apart and rebuilt at its present Castle Road site during the late 1960s.
The building once served as a museum displaying Nottingham's industrial past through exhibitions. It represents the role that merchant structures played in the city's economic life.
The building sits within walking distance of Nottingham Castle and is accessible from the pedestrian areas nearby. There are good viewing spots around the exterior where you can see the structure from different angles.
The structure sustained damage during wartime bombing raids on Nottingham but managed to survive. Restoration work after the war was instrumental in returning it to its current condition.
