Church of St Augustine at Wrangthorn

The Church of St Augustine at Wrangthorn is a Victorian church building on Hyde Park Road featuring a three-stage pointed steeple built from local gritstone. The structure displays the Gothic style common to churches built in that era.

The Leeds Church Extension Society funded this church, which began in 1866 and was consecrated in 1871. It served the expanding parish in the Hyde Park area of the city.

Inside, marble columns and a wooden ceiling painted with a crown of thorns create a strong spiritual setting. These details show how Victorians worked to make prayer spaces feel special and focused.

The church is easy to access from the street and visitors can explore the interior during regular opening times. Keep in mind that access may be limited during services.

Inside you'll find an Abbott and Smith organ with nearly 2000 pipes installed in the early 1900s. This large instrument replaced the original one and fills the space with rich sound during services.
