Nativity of Mary church, Parish church in Borgo Valsugana, Italy
Nativity of Mary church is a stone building in Borgo Valsugana with a single nave containing six evenly spaced chapels running along its sides. A barrel-vaulted ceiling covers the main space, while a bell tower stands adjacent to the main structure.
The church first appears in records from 1323 and underwent major rebuilding between 1698 and 1727. Its stone facade was completed in 1832 using marble salvaged from a demolished church in Trento.
The interior walls display frescoes painted by Sigismondo Nardi and Antonio Mosca in the early 1900s, showing the religious artistic traditions of the region at that time. These painted surfaces remain a striking part of the church experience and reflect how local artists shaped the space.
The church sits in the center of Borgo Valsugana close to the Brenta River and maintains regular hours for worship and visitors. Visiting during daylight hours allows you to see the interior frescoes clearly without artificial lighting.
Italian politician Alcide De Gasperi married Francesca Romani within these walls in 1922. His funeral service took place here before his remains were transferred to Rome in 1954.
