Ecomuseo Valle dei Laghi, Ecomuseum in Trentino, Italy.
Ecomuseo Valle dei Laghi operates as an open-air museum where the entire valley landscape and its communities form the exhibition space rather than a single building. It connects different sites across the valley with guided walks, workshops, and collections that document how people live and work here.
Established in 2015, it joined a regional network of eight ecomuseums recognized by the Trentino Autonomous Province. The project emerged from a movement to help local communities document and value their own ways of life rather than imposing external interpretations.
The association shares traditional crafts and local knowledge through hands-on learning with residents who demonstrate how things are done in the valley communities. Visitors witness how bread baking, fishing, and farming practices remain part of everyday life in the region.
Access to the ecomuseum is spread across different locations in the valley, with the main information point at Vezzano Vallelaghi. Most activities and guided tours require advance booking through direct contact since they are organized on demand rather than with set schedules.
The ecomuseum uses photography and multimedia to document the stories of valley residents and make local memories visible to outsiders. This approach merges archival work with living accounts from people who continue to inhabit the valley today.
