Bognor Regis Pier, Grade II listed Victorian pier in Bognor Regis, England
Bognor Regis Pier is a Victorian wooden structure approximately 107 meters long that stretches into the sea with various facilities along its walkway. The pier contains a nightclub called Sheiks, arcade gaming machines, an ice cream shop, and a fish and chip restaurant.
The pier opened in 1865, designed by engineers Sir Charles Fox and J.W. Wilson, with an initial length of 305 meters extending far into the sea. Severe storm damage over the years significantly shortened the structure, and it was repurposed during World War II as a naval observation post.
The pier serves as a gathering place where visitors enjoy arcade games, dining, and nightlife in a space that has entertained crowds for generations. The mix of activities here reflects how coastal piers remain central to seaside leisure culture today.
The pier remains open throughout the year and offers activities for visitors of various ages and interests. The wooden walkway is straightforward to navigate, though caution is needed during wet weather or windy conditions.
Every summer the International Bognor Birdman competition takes place on the pier, where participants launch themselves using homemade human-powered flying machines. This annual event has become a major draw that attracts spectators from across the region.
