Dunham Massey Hall sundial, Lead sundial sculpture at Dunham Massey Hall, England.
The sundial consists of a black polychromed cast-lead statue depicting a life-size kneeling African man holding a sundial on his head.
Created by Andries Carpentière in 1735, the sundial was commissioned by George Booth, 2nd Earl of Warrington, and stood at Dunham Massey until 2020.
The National Trust removed the Grade II listed sundial from its original location in June 2020 following discussions about historical representations and public memory.
The sculpture features painted white eyes with blue pupils, while the figure wears a blue and green feathered loincloth representing continental Africa.
The design follows an earlier model by Jan van Nost installed in 1701 at Hampton Court Palace's Privy Garden.
