St Alban-on-the-Moors, Roman Catholic church in Splott, Wales
St Alban-on-the-Moors is a Roman Catholic church in Splott built with pennant sandstone and distinctive architectural features. It has a central rectangular tower with crenellated parapets and an octagonal west tower topped by a pyramidal roof.
The building was constructed in 1911 by architect F R Bates from Newport, replacing an earlier iron church from 1891. That earlier structure had been partly assembled from parts of Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral.
The Cardiff Oratory administers services here that blend different liturgical traditions and languages for worshippers. This mix reflects how the community has grown and adapted to serve people with varying religious practices.
The church is located in Splott and welcomes visitors who want to attend regular services. It is best to check service times beforehand to plan your visit at the right moment.
A first-class relic of Saint Alban was ceremonially installed here in 2021, making it a notable pilgrimage site. The event brought the Abbot of Farnborough to preside over the special ceremony.
