Colz, Medieval castle in La Villa, Italy

Castel Colz rises with four towers, two rectangular and two round, surrounded by defensive walls and numerous arrow slits in its stone structure.

Construction of the castle began in 1536 when Emperor Ferdinand I granted Hans von Rubatsch permission to build a residence in the Alta Badia region.

The castle holds significance in Ladin culture, where locals refer to it as 'La gran ćiasa', reflecting its status as the largest building in the valley.

Visitors can explore the castle grounds and attend summer concerts in the courtyard, with information available at the tourism office in La Villa.

Knight Franz Wilhelm Prack zu Asch resided in the castle between 1573 and 1581, becoming a central figure in regional tales of nobility and conflict.
