Sassongher, Mountain summit in South Tyrol, Italy
The Sassongher rises to 2,665 meters in the Dolomites, forming a distinctive pyramid-shaped peak overlooking the town of Corvara in Val Gardena.
Joseph Kostner, a mountain guide from Corvara, completed the first documented climb of Sassongher's south wall in 1900, establishing a new route.
The mountain paths around Sassongher have connected local farmers and hunters across the Val Gardena valley for generations, shaping regional traditions.
The summit trail extends 8.2 kilometers with an elevation gain of 997 meters, requiring approximately two hours and forty minutes to complete.
The mountain stands within the Puez-Odle Nature Park, offering views of the Sella Massif, Marmolada, and the primary Alpine ridge from its peak.
