The municipality extends across 2.94 square kilometers at 450 meters above sea level, with forests covering more than half of its territory.
The first written record of Schwarzerden dates from 1325 when Prince-Archbishop Baldwin of Luxembourg obtained rights from knight Friedrich of Steinkallenfels.
The municipality maintains several active organizations, including a volunteer fire brigade, mixed choir, and sports clubs focused on football activities.
Schwarzerden connects to the regional road network through Kreisstraße 15, which links to Landesstraße 229 in the north and Landesstraße 230 toward Simmertal.
Northeast of the settlement stands the Celtic ringwall Alteburg, featuring a tower that provides views across the surrounding landscape.
