Fort de Manonviller, Military fortification in Meurthe-et-Moselle, France.

Fort de Manonviller occupies 8.2 hectares with an irregular pentagon shape, protected by deep trenches and thick stone walls with artillery positions.

Built between 1874 and 1881 as part of the Séré de Rivières defense system, the fort surrendered to German forces in August 1914 after intense bombardment.

The fort represents French military engineering from the late 19th century, featuring two rotating Mougin towers equipped with 155mm cannons.

Visits to the fort require advance arrangements through the HCF Haxo association, which maintains the structure and conducts guided tours.

During the 1960s, the fort's galleries and chambers were repurposed as mushroom cultivation spaces, marking an unexpected chapter in its history.
