Tempsford Memorial, War memorial at St Peter's Church in Tempsford, England
The Tempsford Memorial consists of a Carrara marble column standing on a black granite base, inscribed with the names of 75 female agents and RAF personnel. A mosaic disc featuring a white dove set against a blue sky completes the structure, located in the Millennium Sanctuary adjacent to the church graveyard.
The memorial recognizes the Special Operations Executive and RAF Squadrons 138 and 161, which carried out secret missions into Nazi-occupied Europe during World War II. It was unveiled in 2013 as a permanent tribute to the operations these units conducted behind enemy lines.
The memorial serves as a gathering place to honor those who took on perilous undercover assignments across occupied territories. Visitors today recognize it as a place dedicated to remembering sacrifice and bravery.
The memorial is situated beside St Peter's Church in Tempsford and is easily accessible on foot for visitors. It stands in an open location and can be visited at any time without requiring special arrangements or equipment.
During the unveiling in 2013, Prince Charles personally completed the memorial's final mosaic work. A Lysander aircraft painted in 161 Squadron colors flew overhead immediately after the ceremony, honoring the aviation units involved in those operations.
