Worthing Town Hall including Assembly Hall and Worthing Room, Municipal building and performance venue in Worthing, England
Worthing Town Hall is a municipal building and performance venue in Worthing, England, combining red brick with Art Deco elements throughout. The complex includes the Assembly Hall with stage areas, dressing rooms, balcony and foyer, supplemented by the Richmond Rooms which offer café facilities.
The complex was founded when Alderman James Gurney Denton donated the Assembly Hall to Worthing in 1934. This addition to the existing town hall marked a turning point for the town's cultural offerings in the 20th century.
The complex serves as a gathering place where the community comes together for orchestral performances and local events. The red brick architecture with Art Deco details creates a distinctive impression when entering that connects visitors immediately with the town's cultural life.
The venue is relatively easy to navigate, with clear signage to the hall and the various event spaces for visitors. It is helpful to arrive early to explore the complex and its different rooms at leisure.
The building contains one of the largest Wurlitzer organs in Europe, installed beneath the stage in 1981 and heard during concerts. The architecture also displays maritime motifs such as seahorse reliefs beside the stage frame and wave patterns in the stone cornice.
