Dulwich College War Memorial, War memorial at Dulwich College, London, United Kingdom
Dulwich College War Memorial is an octagonal stone cross monument crafted from Portland stone, standing approximately 9 meters tall with bronze panels on each face. The structure displays names engraved across its surfaces as a record of those commemorated.
The memorial was unveiled on June 17, 1921, during Dulwich College's Founder's Day celebration, with dedication by Major General Sir Webb Gillman and Dean James Welldon. This event established the monument as the school's formal recognition of its World War I losses.
The memorial lists former pupils and teachers lost in both world wars, serving as a place where visitors can trace the institution's connection to national events through personal names. The inscriptions reflect how a long-established school experienced losses across two generations.
The memorial stands on the eastern side of Dulwich College grounds on College Road and is easily visible from the public areas of the campus. Its Grade II listed status, granted in 2010, ensures its protection and accessibility for visitors.
The structure includes two dedicated Portland stone plinths on its northern and southern sides specifically for those lost in World War II. This addition shows how the school expanded its memorial to honor losses from a second conflict.
