The Factory, Arts center in Manchester, England
The Factory is a building for performing and visual arts in Manchester. Inside there are two main spaces: a hall that seats around 2000 people and an open warehouse area that can accommodate up to 5000 visitors.
Planning started in 2014 when the British government announced the project as part of a programme to revive the economy of the north. After several years of construction the building opened its doors to the public.
The name recalls the legendary music club that put Manchester on the global map in the late 1970s and 1980s. Today a different crowd gathers here: visitors of all ages come for performances, concerts and exhibitions that shape the cultural life of the city anew.
The complex stands in the St John's neighborhood, just a short walk from the main railway station. Guests can purchase memberships that allow earlier booking and other benefits.
Architects designed the interiors so that walls and seating arrangements can shift depending on the event. This means the same room can host a small play one evening and a large concert the next day.
