Grenfell Tower, Residential tower in North Kensington, England
The 24-story Grenfell Tower stands 67.3 meters tall and contained 120 apartments designed to accommodate up to 600 residents on its upper floors.
Constructed in 1974 as part of the Lancaster West Estate, the tower received its name from Field Marshal Francis Grenfell, a British Army officer.
The building represented social housing developments in London during the 1970s, reflecting the period's solution to urban residential needs.
Following the 2017 fire, the structure remains closed with plans for demolition, while investigations continue regarding construction and safety standards.
The original design incorporated precast insulated concrete blocks instead of standard brickwork, marking a departure from traditional construction methods.
