Davies Street drill hall, Military building in Mayfair, England
The Davies Street drill hall features traditional military architecture with a Studio Theatre that accommodates 200 people and includes multiple rehearsal rooms.
Built in 1890 by E. Lawrance and Sons, the structure served as headquarters for the 1st Middlesex Volunteer Rifle Corps and endured bomb damage in 1940.
The building transformed from a military training facility to an arts center, where the Ballets Russes conducted rehearsals in the early 20th century.
Located at 56 Davies Street in Westminster, the facility maintains its position as a venue for performances and continues to host BBC live recordings.
The reconstruction project between 1950 and 1952, designed by Trenwith Wills and completed by James Miller and Partners, gave the building its current form.
