Records from 1897 by Dr. John Lowe documented the tree's girth at 640 centimeters, indicating steady growth of approximately 1.8 centimeters annually.
The tree's presence connects to Sir Hugh de Paduinan, who received the land grant in 1153 and established the estate known as Kilpeter.
Visitors can observe this ancient specimen within a housing estate, where its layered growth pattern extends horizontally rather than vertically.
This male yew demonstrates natural layering abilities, forming what appears to be a grove from a single tree, a rare characteristic in western Europe.
