Fforde Grene

Fforde Grene sits at the intersection of Roundhay Road and Easterly Road, displaying characteristic 1930s red brick design. The corner location provides visibility from two streets and dominates the local streetscape.

The building was constructed in 1938 as part of Melbourne Brewery's operations and served as a pub until 2004. It was then converted into CC Continental Supermarket, representing a complete shift from its original purpose.

This corner building was a crucial venue for live music, drawing performers who later achieved worldwide success. The space still carries the memory of those performances, even as its purpose has shifted entirely.

The building is easily accessible from the street and now functions as a food shop with local produce and international items. The corner position allows simple access from two different streets.

The building's cellars once extended beneath Roundhay Road, but were modified during construction of a neighboring bank. This underground passage is no longer visible, though the cellar structure still bears marks of this former expansion.
