Sage Mountain National Park

Sage Mountain National Park is a protected forest preserve in Road Town with dense woodland and multiple hiking routes across roughly 40 hectares. The park's highest point sits within these boundaries and provides views from above when reached on foot.

The National Parks Trust received the land in 1964 through funding from Laurance Rockefeller, who purchased it from private farmers. This action protected the forest from development and established it as a permanent conservation site.

The trails here honor local conservation efforts, with the Mahogany Forest Trail named after Joseph Reynold O'Neal, a founder of the National Parks Trust. Walking these paths connects visitors to the people who worked to protect this forest for everyone.

The park is reached via Joe Hill Road and Ridge Road, with parking available before heading out on foot. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and bring water, as the trails can be steep and muddy depending on recent weather.

The mountain creates different climate zones, with rain falling on the northern slope while the southern side stays drier and sunnier. This pattern means that forest conditions vary noticeably depending on which trail you walk.
