Soulton Long Barrow is a modern burial chamber in Shropshire with 390 illuminated niches designed to hold cremated remains. The building uses limestone walls and offers different placement options to meet various needs.
Built in 2017, this facility represents the third modern interpretation of ancient Neolithic burial structures that appear throughout Britain. It draws directly on burial traditions that reach back roughly 5000 years.
The site includes an outdoor performance space called The Sanctuary with a hengeiform design that hosts theatrical productions and community gatherings. These events create a living connection between the place and the people who visit it.
The site features outdoor pathways and is marked with standing stones along the approach route that serve as natural guideposts. Walking around the grounds gives a clear sense of the layout and available spaces.
The site includes three megalithic limestone stones positioned along the access route and features a memorial stone dedicated to those lost during the COVID pandemic in 2020. This addition reflects how the place adapts to mark significant moments in time.
