Highmead, Historic mansion in Llanwenog, Wales

The Highmead building stands on an extensive property with architectural elements reflecting the Georgian period of Welsh country estates.

Herbert Evans constructed Highmead in 1777 using inheritance from his mother Elizabeth Lloyd, establishing a significant family estate in Cardiganshire.

The mansion preserves documents and materials that detail Welsh rural life, including ship logs, agricultural notes, and family records from the 18th century.

The estate expanded to 6,307 acres across three counties by 1873, generating an annual income of £3,915 from various agricultural activities.

The building transformed from a private residence to a school for disabled students in 1956, operating in this capacity until 1975.
