Fawley Hill Railway, Private heritage railway in Fawley, England
Fawley Hill Railway is a private railway line that runs about one mile through the estate and operates historic steam locomotives along with numerous relocated railway buildings. The line features various vehicles and original station elements collected from different locations across Britain.
The line began in 1965 when Sir William McAlpine acquired a steam locomotive and laid tracks on his Buckinghamshire estate. Over the following decades, various railway buildings and structures from different British railways were gradually transported to the site to form a cohesive collection.
The estate displays relocated railway buildings from different parts of Britain, including historic stations and signal boxes that visitors can see and walk around. These structures show what British railways looked like in earlier times.
Visits are only available on select days throughout the year and require advance booking with limited visitor numbers per day. It is best to check available visiting dates in advance and reserve your spot early.
The track climbs at a gradient of roughly 1 in 13, making it the steepest standard gauge railway in Britain. Deer and wallabies roam freely across the estate grounds between the railway lines.
