Bailey Bridge, Road bridge in Walton on Trent, United Kingdom.
Bailey Bridge is a road crossing over the River Trent with a distinctive steel truss framework. The structure is supported by brick abutments at the banks and a concrete pier in the middle section.
The structure was built in 1947 by British Army Royal Engineers following damage from severe flooding to an earlier crossing. What was intended as a temporary solution eventually became a permanent fixture.
The bridge served as a vital link for residents on both sides and remains woven into the local story of the area. Today it continues to connect communities across the river in daily life.
The crossing is open to vehicles up to 3 tonnes and requires slower speeds during passage. Traffic signals at both ends manage the flow to prevent congestion and collisions.
A separate footpath runs alongside the northern edge, providing pedestrians with their own dedicated route across the river. This separation allows walkers to cross safely without encountering vehicle traffic.
