Marlborough Mound, Neolithic mound in Marlborough, England

The Marlborough Mound rises 19 meters high with an 83-meter base diameter and a 31-meter flat summit within the grounds of Marlborough College.

Carbon dating confirms the construction of this earthen monument began around 2400 BCE, making it the second largest Neolithic mound in Europe after Silbury Hill.

The mound forms part of an extensive Neolithic landscape alongside the Avebury stone circle, Kennet long barrows, and other archaeological structures in Wiltshire.

The Marlborough Mound Trust conducts preservation work and research projects to maintain the structural integrity of this ancient monument.

The town's Latin motto references a local legend that identifies the mound as the burial place of Merlin, the medieval wizard.
