Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre, History museum in West Devon, United Kingdom
Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre was a history museum in West Devon housing a collection of vintage fairground rides, equipment, and memorabilia spanning different periods of entertainment. The exhibits displayed restored machines and objects documenting how fairground attractions operated and evolved over several decades.
The Fairground Heritage Trust was founded in 1988 and began operating from Lifton in 2003, presenting the collection to the public. The centre expanded with a major building project in the mid-2000s to accommodate the growing number of restored attractions.
The centre displayed mechanical rides from the early 1900s, including a bumper car model from the 1930s and a spinning disc from 1910. These machines showed how fairground entertainment looked and felt to visitors in earlier decades.
The museum is no longer open to visitors following its permanent closure. The collection has been transferred to another location where it will be preserved and displayed in the future.
The collection contained a 1938 Moonrocket ride, the last surviving example of this fairground attraction type. This rare machine demonstrates the engineering skill behind pre-war fairground designs.
