Kinnaird Head lighthouses, Historical lighthouse at Kinnaird Head, Scotland
The cylindrical tower rises from a converted castle structure, reaching 22 meters in height with a focal point of 25 meters above sea level.
The Northern Lighthouse Board transformed Kinnaird Head Castle into Scotland's first lighthouse in 1787, incorporating the existing tower house into the new structure.
The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses preserves maritime navigation techniques, including original oil lamps, reflectors, and the Stevenson-designed spiral staircase.
The lighthouse offers guided tours from April through September between 10 AM and 5 PM, with reduced winter hours from January through March.
Engineers installed a hyperradiant Fresnel lens in 1902, making Kinnaird Head one of two Scottish locations retaining this advanced lighting technology.
