Underwood Quarry, Limestone quarry in St Cuthbert Out, England.
The quarry features a 900-foot-long face with a depth of 110 feet, containing significant deposits of Carboniferous Limestone suitable for construction purposes.
Somerset County Council acquired the quarry in 1932, establishing a transport system with aerial ropeways that moved 350,000 tons of stone to Wookey Stone Sidings.
The quarry employed 118 workers in 1932, becoming a central element of local employment and industrial development in the Somerset region.
Access to the former industrial site requires advance permission, as the area now functions as a specialized radar measurement facility operated by Thales UK.
The location transformed from a stone extraction site into a radar signature measurement range, with equipment capable of handling targets weighing up to 75 tonnes.
