Llandegley International Airport

Llandegley International Airport, Fictional airport signpost on A44 road in Powys, Wales.

This location features a professionally made road sign along the A44 near Crossgates that directs people toward Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 as if an airport existed in the area. The sign is positioned on private land and looks entirely like a genuine airport directional marker, complete with standard formatting and placement alongside the rural highway.

The project began in 2002 when someone installed a standard airport sign on the A44, creating an enduring joke. The sign was removed in 2022 due to maintenance concerns, but community supporters later raised funds to bring it back.

The sign has become known among locals and travelers as a playful artistic intervention in the rural landscape. It reflects a humor in how people encounter unexpected things while driving through the countryside and has sparked conversations about what counts as a real place.

The sign sits along the A44 near Crossgates and is easy to spot from the road, especially when approaching from the west. Daylight hours work best for stopping to look and take photos, as the text and formatting on the sign are clearest during the day.

The sign was actually registered in Wales' national heritage database, giving an art prank official status as a recorded site. This unusual recognition shows how communities sometimes celebrate humorous interventions alongside genuine historical places.
