Aviva Building, Office building in central York, England.
Aviva Building is a six-story office structure with an octagonal tower in central York. The facades are clad in locally quarried magnesian limestone along sections of the River Ouse and Tanner's Moat.
The building was completed in 1993 as the regional headquarters for General Accident insurance company, designed by Hurd Rolland Partnership. Its construction marked an important modernization period for office spaces in York.
The building displays traditional architectural features like gables and mullion windows that reflect recommendations from the York Civic Trust. These details connect it visually to the older structures throughout the city.
The building features a rooftop car park at the back and sits conveniently near Lendal Bridge for easy transport access. Visitors can reach it comfortably on foot or by using nearby public transit options.
This is York's only post-World War II building constructed primarily with locally sourced stone. The use of local material gives it a special connection to the city's building heritage.
