Nye Bevan House, Office building in Blythswood Hill, Glasgow, Scotland.
Nye Bevan House was a nine-story office building clad in dark brick and glass, located in Blythswood Hill as part of the Strathclyde House administrative complex in central Glasgow. Standing at the intersection of India Street and Bothwell Street, it was demolished in 2015 to make way for new development.
Originally called Viceroy House when completed in 1974, it became the headquarters of Strathclyde Regional Council from 1975 onwards. Following the council's dissolution in 1996, the building eventually underwent demolition in 2015.
Named after Nye Bevan, the Welsh Labour politician who founded Britain's National Health Service, this building reflected public service values within Scotland's governance.
This building no longer exists as it was demolished in 2015; visitors will only find an empty site where it once stood. The location at the corner of India Street and Bothwell Street may now feature new buildings or construction plans.
Queen Elizabeth II attended the official opening ceremony of the Strathclyde House complex, which included this building, in 1979. This royal patronage gave the administrative site special historical significance in Glasgow.
