The building replaced the former military hospital known as Chaucer Barracks and opened in 1995 through an official ceremony performed by the Duke of Kent.

The courthouse operates from Monday to Friday between 8 AM and 6 PM, offering services for civil, criminal, and family cases with prior appointments.
The building incorporates grey flint brick construction with distinctive oriel windows on the first floor and pairs of casement windows at ground level.
