Church of St Chad, Pleasley Vale

Church of St Chad, Pleasley Vale, Gothic parish church in Pleasley Vale, England.

The Church of St Chad is a parish church in the English Gothic style featuring stone walls, pointed arches, and a bell tower topped with lead roofing. Inside stands an 1880 organ built by Lloyd & Co, which remains in use today.

Joseph Paget founded the church in 1876 to serve his mill workers and household. It was first built with timber materials on the Derbyshire side before being taken apart and reconstructed with brick and stone across the River Meden in Nottinghamshire.

The church holds regular Anglican services and serves as a gathering place for the local community. It continues worship practices that have shaped daily life in this area for generations.

The church welcomes visitors during service times and can be reached via Church Lane. It is best to check with local authorities about opening hours, as access may be limited outside regular service times.

What makes this church unusual is its remarkable relocation history: it was originally built as a timber structure on the Derbyshire side, then completely dismantled and reconstructed across the River Meden in Nottinghamshire. Such a complete move of an entire building is extraordinarily rare for a church of this size.
