Lefnoreis Castle, Castle ruin in East Ayrshire, Scotland.
The remains of Lefnoreis Castle stand on a natural elevation overlooking the Lugar Water, approximately 100 yards northwest of Dumfries House stable block.
The Craufurd family held ownership of Lefnoreis Castle from 1440 until 1635, when William, the Second Earl of Dumfries, acquired the estate.
Records indicate Lefnoreis Castle ranked as the most important among three castles in Old Cumnock parish, alongside Borland Castle and Terringzean Castle.
The site of Lefnoreis Castle belongs to the Great Steward of Scotland Trust and visitors can access the grounds through the Dumfries House estate.
A causeway made from water-worn stones connected to the castle was discovered during excavations conducted by Lord Bute in 1897.
