St Edmund's Monument, Grade II listed memorial in Hoxne, England

The stone and brick monument stands in a field east of Abbey Hill, marking the traditional location of St Edmund's martyrdom by Viking forces.

The memorial was constructed in 1849 following the collapse of an ancient oak tree that contained an embedded arrowhead at human height.

The monument represents the enduring legacy of St Edmund, the King of East Anglia who became a central figure in medieval English religious narratives.

Located at coordinates 52.3448433, 1.2035396, the monument is accessible through designated pathways and protected under national heritage regulations.

The current structure replaced the original monument that fell during a storm in 1905, with its reconstruction overseen by Agnes Burrell Bateman-Hanbury.
