Dispilio Lakeside Neolithic Settlement Archaeological Collection

The museum exhibits extensive collections of Neolithic artifacts discovered from a settlement near Lake Orestiada, including tools, pottery, and structural remains.

Excavations at the site began in 1992 under Professor Nikos Hourmouziadis, revealing a settlement dating back to the middle of the 6th millennium BCE.

The settlement inhabitants practiced agriculture, hunting, and fishing, as evidenced by bone tools, stone implements, and remains of wooden structures.

Located 8 kilometers from Kastoria, the museum features reconstructed lakeside dwellings that demonstrate the living conditions of Neolithic settlers.

The collection includes the Dispilio Tablet and an ancient bone flute, which ranks among the earliest musical instruments found in Europe.
