Dispilio Lakeside Neolithic Settlement Archaeological Collection

The Dispilio Museum displays finds from a Neolithic settlement on the shores of Lake Orestiada and presents everyday objects, pottery, and house foundations. The collection includes reconstructed dwelling structures that show how people lived by the water.

The site was excavated starting in 1992 under Professor Nikos Hourmouziadis and revealed a settlement from the middle of the 6th millennium BCE. This discovery shows one of the earliest known permanent communities in this region.

The settlement shows how people here lived and worked, with evidence of fishing, hunting, and early farming. You can see tools made from bone and stone along with remains of wooden houses built by the water.

The museum sits near Kastoria and features reconstructed lakeside houses that show how people lived here. Plan time to look closely at the artifacts and house models.

The collection includes the Dispilio Tablet, one of the earliest known written objects in Europe. An ancient bone flute is among the most notable pieces and shows that music was part of life even in this early era.
