Chiesa di Santa Lucia

Chiesa di Santa Lucia, Medieval church in Masullas, Italy.

The chiesa di Santa Lucia is a medieval church in Masullas built with a single nave layout and six lateral chapels arranged symmetrically along both sides. Inside, a marble baptismal font sits in the first left chapel, while a bell tower completed in 1814 rises above the building.

Construction of the church began in the 16th century under Countess Violante Carroz of Quirra and underwent major renovations in 1620 when the six lateral chapels were added. This expansion transformed the original structure and established the building's current layout.

The church serves as the focal point for December celebrations honoring Saint Lucy, when the local community gathers for traditional Sardinian rosary chants and festive observances. These occasions shape the religious rhythm of the village and reinforce local devotion.

The church is centrally located in the village of Masullas and is easily accessible on foot from the main areas. Visitors should dress respectfully as it remains an active place of worship.

Inside the church stands a 17th-century statue of Saint Lucy that serves as the focal point of local devotion for the community of Masullas. This sculpture has become deeply woven into the village's religious identity and draws particular attention during December festivities.
